OMDTZ was in partnership with the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) from January 2019 to August 2023 in the implementation of the project in Tanzania and is providing machine-generated road data editing, general validation, and submission of data for Meta Technologies. As part of their activities under this project, OMDTZ:
- Recruits and provides training for map editors and quality analysts (“QA”) to create documentation and/or materials, including how-to instructional guides for new editors, as well as to check and validate data.
- Performs quality analyses of OSM data and road mapping data in Tanzania and other countries.
- Provides design and/or engineering support for special tasks in support of the overall OSM project, as directed by HOT.
From 2019 to 2023 total of 31 mappers were engaged in this project of which 16 were male and 15 were female , team members were recruited from diverse career backgrounds, but well knowledgeable in Open and Participatory mapping tools.
Team structure
The team consists of 20 youths divided into 4 groups, with each group of four mappers supervised by one Quality Assurance personnel. These teams have been working remotely from home since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, in 2022 the team started to work from the office.
